Club history

Established in 1953, Oxygen Club is one of the oldest & most successful swimming and diving professional club.

1953-1963
SUCCESS FROM THE START

Club's first swimmer was John Harrison. After several years he was widely acclaimed as a natural coach and teacher. Over his 20-year volunteer career, it has been estimated that more than 200,000 children learned to swim at his Swim Club.

OUR BEGINNIGS

The Oxygen Swim Club is competitive swim club, founded in October 1953 by swimmer coach John Lee.

AWARDS

This award recognizes the swimmer with the highest percentage of overall improvement in all strokes.

FIRST MEDALS

In April 1962, Oxygen Club hosted the single largest swim and diving meet ever to be held at the college level.

JUNIOR TEAM

Comprehensive training programmes began with our Junior Squads right through to Performance squads.

1964-1978
WATER POLO CLUB FOUNDED

Many Oxygen swimmers gained acclaim and success in water polo competitions too. First water polo major star was local resident Richard Tompson who started playing water polo with the club in USA National league at the age of ten.

MORE MEMBERS,
MORE MEDALS

We've operated within the City Swimming Club and therefore all swimmers had the opportunity to progress through a seamless pathway from swimming lessons to Olympian. We also had squads for those who choose to continue swimming for enjoyment.

NEW MEMBERS

With the help of this grant funding, the Club continued to fast grow with the number of all age swimmers.

POOL LOCATION

Above all Oxygen Club operated in a friendly fun filled environment where the focus was solely on all members.

JUNIOR TEAM

From the start, Club’s members act in accordance with the Swim Code Comprehensive of Conduct and Ethics.

CHAMPIONS

The swim programme consists of one 30 min. session per week and all children are grouped on best ability.

All our racers come from RYA clubs based on the river Blackwater in Essex. Contact any clubs that have cruisers and ask to speak to their BJRC rep. Alternatively get in touch with us direct.
